Delhi Increases MLA Development Fund to Rs 15 Crores Annually

Announcement by Chief Minister Atishi

The Delhi Cabinet has approved a significant increase in the MLA Local Area Development Fund (MLALAD), raising it from Rs 10 crores to Rs 15 crores per year for each MLA. This decision was announced by Chief Minister Atishi and Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj.

Importance of the MLALAD Fund

CM Atishi highlighted the importance of the MLALAD fund as a vital tool for local residents to initiate development projects in their areas. She emphasized that this fund represents the people’s voice in getting their work done.

Comparison with Other States

Atishi noted that no other state in India provides such a large MLA Fund as Delhi. For instance, Gujarat allocates Rs 1.5 crores per MLA constituency, while Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka provide Rs 2 crores. Larger states like Maharashtra, Kerala, and Rajasthan allocate only Rs 5 crores.

Reasons for the Increase

Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj explained that the increase is necessary due to the damage caused by heavy rains this year, affecting roads, parks, and sewers. The enhanced fund will allow MLAs to address these issues promptly without waiting for lengthy departmental approvals.

The flexibility of the MLA Fund ensures faster responses to local infrastructure and development needs, providing immediate relief to the public.
