Delhi High Court to Hear Arvind Kejriwal’s Plea for Extra Lawyer Meetings

New Delhi, India – On July 8, the Delhi High Court will hear a plea from Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. He is asking for two extra meetings with his lawyers while he is in judicial custody. Justice Neena Bansal Krishna will hear the case on Monday.

Recently, a trial court dismissed Kejriwal’s request. He argued that he needs more meetings with his lawyers because he is involved in about 30 legal cases across the country. He also mentioned that he was recently arrested in another case by the CBI. The trial court noted that co-accused Sanjay Singh was allowed extra legal meetings in February 2024, but found no new reasons to change its earlier decision from April 2024.

On Saturday, the Rouse Avenue Court of Delhi also refused Kejriwal’s request to have his wife present during his medical consultations. The court said that the prison rules do not allow this unless the prisoner is admitted to a hospital outside the jail. However, the court did allow Kejriwal’s wife to meet with doctors to discuss his diet and to receive his medical records.

This petition is part of the excise policy money laundering case. The ED and CBI have accused Kejriwal of making unfair changes to the excise policy, giving undue favors to license holders, and extending licenses without proper approval.
