Delhi High Court to Decide on Arvind Kejriwal’s Bail in Liquor Scam Case

The Delhi High Court is set to announce its decision today on the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) plea to stay the bail of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, which was granted by a trial court in the liquor scam case.

The ED filed written submissions opposing any relief to Kejriwal in the Excise Policy money laundering case, calling the trial court’s bail order illegal and perverse. The ED argued that the trial court did not consider new evidence collected after 2023 and that the order should be stayed and set aside.

The Supreme Court has postponed Kejriwal’s appeal against the High Court’s interim stay on his bail to June 26. A vacation bench of Justices Manoj Misra and SVN Bhatti noted that the High Court’s decision to grant an interim stay without a final order was unusual.

On June 21, the High Court granted an interim stay on Kejriwal’s bail while reserving its final order and asked both sides to submit written arguments. Kejriwal then appealed to the Supreme Court. The trial judge had initially granted bail to Kejriwal on June 20, but the ED quickly challenged this decision in the High Court.
