Delhi High Court Takes Action Against Nitin Bansal

Alleged Pistol Incident During Court Inspection

The Delhi High Court has started criminal contempt proceedings against Nitin Bansal. This action follows an incident where Bansal allegedly displayed a pistol during a court-ordered inspection at his office. Justice Subramonium Prasad, after reviewing the report from the court commissioner and a police officer’s statement, decided to proceed with the contempt charges.

According to the report, when a police officer entered Bansal’s office, a pistol, identified as an air gun, was found on the table. Justice Prasad stated that this act interfered with the administration of justice, amounting to criminal contempt. The court has requested the Registrar General to present the case records to the Chief Justice for further action by the Division Bench.

On September 17, 2024, the Local Commissioner reported that a previous court order had been violated, and Bansal’s actions were considered contemptuous. During a hearing on September 19, 2024, it was noted that Bansal became aggressive and placed a weapon on the table.

Bansal was instructed to appear in court and explain his actions. He filed an affidavit claiming the pistol was an air gun used to scare animals, as his factory is in a remote area. He argued that the air gun was already on the table before the inspection began.

The court, however, questioned the necessity of having the air gun on the table during the inspection, suggesting it could intimidate the court officer. Justice Prasad expressed skepticism about Bansal’s explanation, noting that a toy gun without pellets is unlikely to scare animals.
