Delhi High Court Reviews Yasin Malik’s Plea for Urgent Medical Treatment

Yasin Malik Seeks Urgent Medical Treatment

On November 8, the Delhi High Court received a plea from Yasin Malik, a Kashmiri separatist leader, currently imprisoned in Tihar Jail. Malik, who has been on a hunger strike since November 1, is requesting urgent medical treatment. He claims that his fundamental rights, including access to proper medical care, are being denied by the jail authorities.

Malik’s Requests

Malik has asked the court to direct Tihar Jail to provide records of his medical treatment and ensure he receives necessary care at AIIMS or another super-speciality hospital. He also wants to be produced in court whenever required.

Previous Court Actions

Earlier this year, Malik approached the court for similar reasons, citing cardiac and kidney issues. The court was informed that he had been treated at AIIMS, and assurances were made for future care.

JKLF Ban and Tribunal Decision

The Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), led by Malik, has been banned for five more years by the Ministry of Home Affairs, a decision upheld by the UAPA Tribunal. Despite Malik’s claims of renouncing violence, the Tribunal noted his continued links to violent groups.

NIA’s Appeal for Death Penalty

The Delhi High Court is also reviewing an appeal by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for the death penalty for Malik in a terror funding case. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta accused Malik of involvement in the killing of Indian Air Force personnel and the kidnapping of Rubaiya Sayeed.
