Delhi High Court Reviews Appeal in Ankit Saksena Murder Case
The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Delhi Police regarding an appeal by Mohd Salim, who was convicted in the Ankit Saksena murder case. Mohd Salim, along with his sister Shehnaj Begam and her husband Akbar Ali, were sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Ankit Saksena, who was in a relationship with Shehnaj’s daughter.

The division bench of Justices Prathiba M Singh and Amit Sharma has asked for a response from the Delhi Police. The case will be heard again on September 12. Mohd Salim is challenging the trial court’s decision that found him guilty and sentenced him. Advocate Ajay Verma is representing Mohd Salim.
Ankit Saksena was murdered in 2018 because of his interfaith relationship with Shehnaj Begam’s daughter. On March 7, 2024, the Tis Hazari Court sentenced Mohd Salim, Shehnaj Begam, and Akbar Ali to life imprisonment and fined them Rs 50,000 each, which will be given to Ankit’s mother as compensation. Additionally, Shehnaj Begam was sentenced to three months in prison for assaulting Ankit’s mother and fined Rs 1,000.
Incident Details
Ankit Saksena, a photographer, was killed on February 1, 2018, near Blind University in Raghuveer Nagar. The court found that Mohd Salim, Akbar Ali, and a minor brother of the girl held Ankit while Akbar Ali slit his throat. Ankit’s parents witnessed the incident and tried to protect him. An FIR was registered at Khyala Police Station, and the Delhi Police listed 28 witnesses to prove the case.
