Delhi High Court Questions MHA’s Role in Ramleela License Denial
The Delhi High Court has raised questions about the Ministry of Home Affairs’ (MHA) involvement in granting licenses for public performances. This comes after the Delhi Police denied permission for a Ramleela event organized by Shiv Mandir Nirman evum Vikas Sewa Samiti in New Usman Pur.
Justice Sanjeev Narula has asked the Central Government and Delhi Police to clarify their roles by August 12. The petitioner was initially informed on June 18, 2024, that their application was rejected and was asked to reapply on the MHA portal.
Advocate Shakar K Jha, representing the petitioner, argued that the application had already been processed by the Delhi Police. Justice Narula questioned why the petitioner was redirected to the MHA portal if the application had been considered. The court also asked Central Government Standing Counsel Monika Arora to explain the MHA’s role in this matter.
Both counsels have been directed to provide answers at the next hearing.
