Delhi High Court Orders Removal of Post About Centipede in Amul Ice Cream

The Delhi High Court has directed a woman to take down a social media post from X alleging a centipede in Amul ice cream. The court also restrained her and others from making similar posts on social platforms.

Details of the Case

The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Limited, which owns Amul, moved against the user and sought the removal of the post. Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora ordered the removal of the post from Deepa Devi’s X account within three days.

The court also restrained Deepa Devi and others from posting any content similar to the said post on any social media platform, including Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, until further orders.

Quality Assurance by Amul

Senior counsel Sunil Dalal, representing the plaintiff federation, stated that stringent quality checks are employed at every stage, from raw milk procurement to the manufacturing and loading of ice cream. These checks ensure no contamination, making it impossible for any foreign substance to be present in Amul ice cream.

Defendants’ Non-Compliance

The High Court noted that the defendants refused to hand over the ice cream tub for testing. Despite being served with an advance copy of the suit record, the defendants did not appear in court. The next hearing is scheduled for July 22.
