Delhi High Court Grants Six Weeks Bail to Amit Katyal for Medical Reasons
The Delhi High Court has granted six weeks interim bail to businessman Amit Katyal on medical grounds. Katyal is involved in the Land for Job money laundering case along with Rabri Devi and other accused persons.
Justice Dharmesh Sharma, who granted the bail, noted that Katyal had previously been on interim bail for 84 days and did not misuse the liberty. The court considered Katyal’s medical condition, which requires care that cannot be provided in jail.
Senior advocate Aman Lekhi, representing Katyal, highlighted that Katyal is suffering from multiple health issues, including acute morbid obesity and complications post-Bariatric Surgery. The surgery, conducted on April 9, 2024, involved the removal of 75% of Katyal’s stomach, necessitating strict dietary requirements for his survival.
Special Counsel Zoheb Hossain opposed the bail extension, arguing that Katyal is seeking a review of an earlier order and that he cannot repeatedly seek bail on the same medical grounds.
The court ultimately decided in favor of granting the interim bail, emphasizing that Katyal’s medical needs cannot be adequately met in jail.
