Delhi High Court Grants Bail in Abduction and Murder Case
The Delhi High Court has granted bail to Hitesh Pratap Singh Chauhan, accused in the abduction and murder of a man in Greater Kailash in November 2019. Chauhan has been in custody since December 2019. Justice Anish Dayal considered his conduct, long incarceration, and the stage of evidence in the case before granting bail.
Justice Dayal stated, “In light of the above, and that the trial in the matter is likely to take some time, and it would not be prudent to keep the petitioner behind bars for an indefinite period, this Court finds it to be a fit case for grant of bail to the petitioner.” The bail was granted on October 14, with a personal bond of Rs 50,000 and one surety of the same amount.
The case involves the abduction and murder of Arun Kumar Sharma, reported missing on November 15, 2019, after leaving for a court hearing in Gurugram. The investigation revealed a property dispute between Arun Sharma and Rishi Raj Pal Singh Chauhan, which had reached the Supreme Court. The court ruled in favor of Arun Sharma in September 2019.
CCTV footage captured two suspects and a white Mahindra Scorpio car, which was later found to have a fake registration number. During interrogation, Hitesh Chauhan and Rishi Raj Pal Singh Chauhan admitted their involvement, allegedly hiring three individuals to kidnap and murder Arun Sharma.
