Delhi High Court Dismisses Appeal Against Prime Minister Narendra Modi
The Delhi High Court’s Division bench dismissed an appeal challenging a previous order that rejected a plea seeking the disqualification of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from elections. The court found the claims made by the appellant, Captain Deepak Kumar, to be incoherent and preposterous, suggesting that the appellant might need medical help.
The bench of Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela upheld the single-bench dismissal order from May 30. The appellant, appearing virtually, alleged that Prime Minister Modi wanted to harm him with the help of a former Chief Justice of India.
Captain Deepak Kumar had sought the disqualification of Narendra Modi from contesting or being a member of the Lok Sabha from the Varanasi constituency for the 2024 general elections. He claimed that Modi submitted a false oath to bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India and influenced the Delhi Police to avoid registering a case against him concerning serious allegations of corruption and national security threats.
The plea also called for an investigation into Modi’s candidature and the cancellation of his official powers if proven guilty. The court, however, found no merit in these claims and dismissed the appeal.
