In New Delhi, the Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has allowed the Enforcement Directorate to prosecute Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party, in the excise policy case. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari stated that the Supreme Court has already punished Kejriwal, who is no longer the Chief Minister of Delhi, for his alleged involvement in the case. On December 5, the Enforcement Directorate sought permission to prosecute Kejriwal, following extensive investigations into the Delhi government's excise policy, which has been surrounded by controversy and corruption allegations. Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva accused Kejriwal of being the 'kingpin' of the liquor scam, asserting that he looted Delhi and will be punished.
The Delhi High Court has granted the ED more time to respond to a petition by Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, challenging the trial court's decision on the chargesheets in the case. The hearing is set for February 5. The ED claims the excise policy was designed to benefit AAP leaders and facilitate cartel formation, with allegations of kickbacks from liquor businesses for preferential treatment.
