Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai Takes Action Against Dust Violations
On Monday, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai conducted a surprise inspection at construction sites at RML Hospital and Lady Hardinge Road as part of an anti-dust campaign. He found that environmental rules were not being followed properly. The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) was instructed to impose fines of Rs 5 lakh on both sites, with additional daily penalties if issues are not resolved.
Winter Pollution Control Measures
Minister Rai announced a 21-point winter action plan to tackle pollution, including the operation of a war room and the use of bio-decomposers to manage stubble. An anti-dust campaign was also launched to control dust at construction sites.
Inspection Findings
At RML Hospital, the construction company was not adhering to 14 dust control rules. Violations included non-functional anti-smog guns, uncovered soil, and workers without masks. Similar issues were found at Godrej’s site on Lady Hardinge Road, where only one anti-smog gun was present, and dust was not controlled properly.

Minister Rai emphasized the importance of following the 14 dust control rules. He stated that 523 teams, 500 water sprinklers, and 85 Mechanical Road Sweeping machines have been deployed to improve air quality in Delhi.
