Delhi Education Minister Atishi Stops Teacher Transfers and Calls for Inquiry

Delhi Education Minister Atishi has directed Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to immediately withdraw the transfer order of teachers issued on July 2. She also instructed to halt any further compulsory transfers of teachers who have completed 10 years in a particular school.

Atishi highlighted that nearly 5,000 teachers were transferred under a contentious clause, which mandates transfers for those who have served over 10 years in the same school. She emphasized that this action disrupts the school system and violates the National Education Policy 2020, which aims to halt excessive teacher transfers.

The Minister called for disciplinary proceedings against officers who defied her directive and urged a vigilance inquiry into alleged corruption in the transfer process. She stressed that such mass transfers demotivate teachers, break down relationships with the community, and negatively impact the academic performance of schools.

Atishi also mentioned that many teachers have alleged corruption in the transfer process but are afraid to lodge formal complaints due to fear of retaliation. She called this a serious matter that undermines the transparency principles of the NEP 2020.

The Chief Secretary has been asked to submit an Action Taken Report within 48 hours.
