Delhi Court Sentences Man for Throwing Acid on Dog
Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court has sentenced Mahendra Singh to one year of imprisonment for throwing acid on a dog, resulting in the loss of one eye of the animal. The court described the act as bone-chilling and emphasized its severity.
Incident Details
The incident occurred in 2020, and an FIR was registered at Paharpur Ganj Police station. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Richa Sharma stated that the act shakes the conscience of the court and is bone-chilling.

ACJM Sharma said, “The convict has committed an offence in a manner that shakes not only the conscience of this court but bone chilling as well.” The court also highlighted the importance of compassion towards animals, quoting Mahatma Gandhi and Emmanuel Kant.
Penalties
The court imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 429 IPC and Rs. 50 under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. In default of payment, the convict shall undergo simple imprisonment for three more months.
