Delhi Court Reserves Bail Order for Landowners and Driver in Coaching Centre Tragedy

New Delhi, July 30: Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court has reserved the order on the bail pleas of landowners Tejinder, Parvinder, Harvinder, Sarabjit, and driver Manuj Kathuria. This case is related to the tragic incident at a coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar, which resulted in the deaths of three students.

The Delhi Police opposed the bail applications, stating that the landowners abetted the offense and the driver, Manuj Kathuria, contributed to the incident by driving at high speed. Judicial Magistrate First Class Vinod Kumar will announce the decision tomorrow at 4 PM.

Advocate Rakesh Malhotra, representing the accused, argued that the incident was not due to overspeeding and that the area was too crowded for high-speed driving. He also mentioned that the place where the incident occurred was being used as a library illegally and that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and other agencies should be held responsible for maintaining civic amenities.

Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) Atul Shrivastava, representing the Delhi Police, opposed the bail, showing evidence that the accused was driving an off-road vehicle and did not slow down despite waterlogging. He argued that the accused, being a local, could influence witnesses and that the investigation is still in its early stages.

The court also heard arguments about the legality of the library and the responsibilities of the landowners. The defense argued that the landowners had no intention or knowledge of the incident and that it was an act of God due to desilting and rain.

The court will decide on the bail pleas tomorrow, considering all the arguments presented.
