Key Witness Testifies in Delhi Court for Wrestler’s Harassment Case
On November 15, the Rouse Avenue court in Delhi recorded the statement of a key witness in a sexual harassment case involving women wrestlers. The accused in this case is former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The statement was taken in a closed courtroom by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Vaibhav Chaurasia.
Additional Public Prosecutor Atul Srivastava represented the Delhi police during the proceedings. The witness, who is also a complainant and a main participant in the women’s wrestlers protest at Jantar Mantar in January 2023, arrived at the court before 2 PM. Her testimony lasted for about two and a half hours.
Representing Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh were Advocates Rajiv Mohan, Rishabh Bhati, and Rehan Khan. The court has scheduled the next hearing for November 26 to continue recording the witness’s evidence.
The court had previously issued a summons to the witness on November 4. However, she was unable to attend as she was participating in a wrestling championship abroad. Defense counsel Rajiv Mohan argued against summoning her, noting she is the author of the FIR. Additionally, Delhi police dropped coach Jagbeer Singh as a witness on October 19.
