Delhi Court Grants Bail to Jail Staff Nitin Rana Caught with Drugs
Delhi’s Karkardooma Court has recently granted bail to Nitin Rana, a staff member at Mandoli Jail, who was caught taking drugs inside the jail premises. Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai granted bail to Rana, who had been in custody for the past month.

The court noted that Rana had been in custody for about a month and that the investigation was complete. As a government servant, the court saw no chance that Rana would abscond or fail to cooperate in the remaining investigation. Judge Bajpai ordered that Rana be admitted to bail on furnishing a personal bond of Rs 10,000 with one surety in the same amount.

Rana was accused of possessing 100 grams of a substance like opium. Initially, his bag and body were checked by the ITBP, and nothing was found. However, he was later found with 100 grams of opium at the CPRO gate. Rana’s counsel argued that the allegations were fabricated and that CCTV footage would prove his innocence. The counsel also noted that no complaint was filed on the day of the alleged recovery, and the FIR was lodged six days later.

The Additional Public Prosecutor opposed the bail application, stating that the offense was heinous and the recovered contraband was of intermediate quantity. The prosecutor argued that the investigation was still in its initial stages and that releasing Rana on bail could affect the investigation.

On July 20, 2024, a General Diary was received at Police Station Harsh Vihar from the Mandoli Jail Complex, stating that a suspicious substance was recovered from Rana’s possession. The CRPF officials handed over a white envelope suspected to contain 100 grams of opium when the Investigating Officer reached the spot.
