Delhi Court Extends Arvind Kejriwal’s Custody in Excise Policy Case
On Tuesday, a court in Delhi extended the judicial custody of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal until September 3 in the excise policy case. The court will also hear arguments on a supplementary chargesheet against him and five others on the same date.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has alleged that money received from the South Group was used for the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) campaign in the Goa elections. It is also claimed that Kejriwal promised to give Rs 90 lakh to each candidate in 40 constituencies of Goa.
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja has listed the matter for September 3 for consideration of the supplementary chargesheet against Arvind Kejriwal, Durgesh Pathak, Vinod Chauhan, Ashish Mathur, Amit Arora, and Sharath Reddy. Special Public Prosecutor DP Singh stated that this is the fourth and final chargesheet. He mentioned that Vijay Nair, hired by Kejriwal as a media manager, was in touch with the South Group and facilitated the transfer of money for the Goa campaign.
Kejriwal appeared via video conferencing and was allowed to leave for lunch due to low blood sugar. He was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court in connection with his arrest by the CBI in the excise policy case. However, he remains in jail. The Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing of Kejriwal’s bail plea to September 5, giving the CBI one more week to file a reply.
