Delhi CM Atishi and BJP Leader Praveen Shankar Kapoor in Defamation Case Clash

In New Delhi, the Rouse Avenue court has instructed BJP leader Praveen Shankar Kapoor to respond to a revision petition filed by Delhi Chief Minister Atishi in a defamation case. Atishi is challenging a summoning order related to a defamation complaint by Kapoor. The court has scheduled arguments for October 23 and 24. Previously, the court had issued a notice to Kapoor, and the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate has postponed the matter to November 5 as the appellate court has requested the case record.

Senior advocates Ramesh Gupta, Shailendra Singh, and Mudit Jain are representing Atishi, while Ajay Burman and Shoumendu Mukherjee are representing Kapoor. The defamation complaint stems from Atishi’s claims that the BJP approached her to join their party, which Kapoor argues are false and defamatory. Atishi alleged that the BJP threatened her with arrest by the Enforcement Directorate if she did not join them. She accused the BJP-led Centre of using probe agencies to intimidate her party.

Atishi, a member of the Aam Aadmi Party, has stated her commitment to resisting these pressures and continuing her work under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal. The legal notice from Kapoor demanded that Atishi retract her statements and issue a public apology.
