Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s Bail Stayed by High Court in Liquor Policy Case

New Delhi, June 21: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will remain in jail for a few more days as the Delhi High Court has put a hold on the trial court’s decision to grant him bail in the liquor policy case. Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain stated that the final judgment will be delivered in two to three days.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) challenged the trial court’s decision, arguing that they were not given a proper chance to present their case. Additional Solicitor General (ASG) SV Raju, representing the ED, claimed that the trial court’s order was flawed and that there was evidence of Kejriwal’s involvement in demanding Rs 100 crore.

ASG Raju argued that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) used the money for election campaigns and that Kejriwal, as well as the party, are guilty of money laundering. He also questioned whether holding a constitutional position should be a reason for granting bail.

Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, countered that the ED’s approach was inappropriate and that the trial court’s order was well-formulated. He emphasized that Kejriwal had complied with all conditions during his interim bail and that there was no reason to deny him bail.

The ED has requested the High Court to overturn the trial court’s decision, arguing that the bail was granted without proper consideration of the facts and without giving the ED a fair opportunity to present their case. The High Court will deliver its judgment in the coming days.
