Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Appeals to Supreme Court Over Bail Stay in Excise Policy Case
Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal has moved the Supreme Court against the Delhi High Court’s decision to stay his bail in the alleged excise policy scam case. AAP stated that Kejriwal’s lawyers have requested a hearing for the petition tomorrow morning.
On June 20, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court granted regular bail to Kejriwal despite opposition from the Directorate of Enforcement (ED). However, the ED challenged this decision at the Delhi High Court, which stayed the trial court’s order, citing a lack of adequate hearing opportunity for the probe agency.
Earlier, on May 10, the Supreme Court had granted interim bail to Kejriwal to allow him to participate in election activities, with the condition that he surrender on June 2 and avoid visiting the Office of the Chief Minister or the Delhi Secretariat. Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in connection with alleged irregularities in the now-cancelled Delhi excise policy 2021-22.
