On Independence Day, Delhi Minister Gopal Rai pointed out that this is the first time an elected Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, is behind bars during the celebrations. Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena hoisted the national flag at his official residence.

Gopal Rai mentioned that after discussions, it was decided that Kailash Gahlot would raise the flag in Kejriwal’s absence, calling it a positive step. He emphasized that despite the allegations against Kejriwal, his work has been appreciated by the people of Delhi.

Earlier, Sunita Kejriwal, Arvind Kejriwal’s wife, criticized the situation in a post on X, calling it a form of dictatorship. She expressed sadness that the tricolour was not hoisted at the Chief Minister’s residence. Delhi Minister Atishi also voiced her concerns, pledging to fight against what she termed as dictatorship.
