Delhi BJP Protests Against AAP Government for Stopping Pensions

On August 23, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers, led by Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, staged a protest outside the Department of Social Welfare office in Lajpat Nagar. They were protesting against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s failure to provide old age and widow pensions.

Key Points from the Protest

Virendra Sachdeva criticized the Kejriwal government for not fulfilling its basic responsibilities. He stated that the government had stopped pensions for the elderly and widows for the last five months, which were essential for their daily needs.

Sachdeva accused the Kejriwal government of having funds for lavish residences and corruption but not for pensions. He claimed that the announcement by AAP minister Atishi Marlena to release the pensions was a victory for BJP.

Statements from Other BJP Leaders

State General Secretary and MP Yogendra Chandolia demanded the immediate release of all pending pensions and filling of 1,80,000 vacancies. He warned that BJP would continue to protest until the pensions were released.

State General Secretary Vishnu Mittal and former MP Ramesh Bidhuri also criticized the Kejriwal government for withholding pensions and demanded their immediate release.

Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta highlighted that no new elderly person had received a pension since 2018 and called for the release of withheld pensions.

BJP leader Pawan Sharma accused the Delhi government of lying and not providing pensions to the poor, widows, and elderly women.

Response from AAP

Earlier on Friday, Delhi minister Atishi announced that the elderly would receive their pensions after a five-month delay, attributing the delay to the central government’s actions.

Protest Coordination

The protest was coordinated by BJP workers Brijesh Rai and Neeraj Gupta and saw the presence of several BJP leaders and officials.
