Delhi and Gujarat Face Heavy Rains: Traffic Disruptions and Flood Alerts
New Delhi woke up to light rain on Thursday, bringing relief from humid weather. Commuters in Lajpat Nagar and ITO braved the rain to get to work. On Wednesday, heavy rain caused severe waterlogging in areas like Zakhira underpass, NH-24 highway, and Akshardham flyover. The Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory for heavy traffic at Mahatma Gandhi Marg due to waterlogging at Nigam Bodh Ghat, with diversions at Chandgi Ram Akhara.
Delhi recorded 108 mm of rain on Wednesday and 235.5 mm in June, the highest in 88 years. The Yamuna River’s rising water levels led to alerts for Noida villages, which faced severe flooding last year.
Meanwhile, Gujarat experienced heavy rains, causing flood-like situations in various districts. Eight people died in the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 61. Relief Commissioner Alok Pandey reported ongoing rescue operations in Dwarka and Surat to assist affected residents.
