Delhi Airport Canopy Collapse: Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Ensures Refunds and Safety Measures
New Delhi, June 29 – Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu has assured that proactive measures are being taken following the canopy collapse incident at Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1. A war room has been set up to ensure refunds or alternate flights for affected passengers.
Condolences and Immediate Actions
The Minister expressed his condolences for the loss of life and injuries caused by the incident. He stated, “The incident at the Delhi airport is very tragic, and I offer my condolences to the one individual who lost his life. Some people were injured and are receiving treatment.”
Emergency response teams, including the NDRF and CISF, quickly took control of the situation to prevent further damage.
Refunds and Flight Arrangements
Minister Naidu guaranteed refunds within seven days or alternate flights for those whose flights were canceled. Terminal 1 has been closed, and all flight operations have been moved to Terminals 2 and 3. A war room has been established to facilitate these arrangements.
Preventing Future Incidents
To prevent similar incidents, a special team from IIT Delhi’s structural engineering department will conduct an initial inspection. The Ministry has requested reports from all airports within 2-5 days to determine necessary safety measures.
Investigation and Support
The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has formed a technical committee to investigate the cause of the collapse, which is believed to be due to heavy rains and winds. Rescue operations were promptly launched, and all individuals were evacuated from Terminal 1.
DIAL is working with various agencies, including the DGCA, BCAS, CISF, Delhi Police, and NDRF, to assess the situation and restore operations. Compensation has been announced for the affected individuals and the family of the deceased.
