A portion of the canopy at Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1 collapsed due to heavy rain, resulting in one death and several injuries. Praful Patel, former Union Civil Aviation Minister, emphasized the need for an investigation rather than political blame.

Current Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the deceased and Rs 3 lakh for the injured. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is monitoring the situation, and all relevant agencies are coordinating efforts to ensure safety.

Details of the Incident

In the early morning of Friday, heavy rain led to the collapse of a portion of the canopy at Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1. A major company, Larsen and Toubro, built this airport 15 years ago. Forensic experts have arrived to investigate the incident.

Statements from Officials

Praful Patel stated, “It’s unfortunate that a portion of Delhi airport’s Terminal 1 collapsed. I can’t understand the politics being done on this. An investigation should be conducted into the incident.”

Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu said, “Investigation has begun. We will also bring experts from the department to investigate this. Action will be taken on the basis of the report that will come.”

Compensation and Safety Measures

Naidu further announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the deceased and Rs 3 lakh each for the injured. He assured that all airport buildings across the country would be inspected to prevent such incidents in the future.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is closely monitoring the situation and has assured full support. All flights scheduled until 2 PM have been cancelled, with passengers receiving full refunds or rebooking options.
