Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane Talks About Boosting Defence Manufacturing in India

New Delhi [India], July 9, 2024: Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane emphasized the Ministry of Defence’s commitment to further reforms in Defence Production during a virtual seminar organized by the Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA) and the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM).

Keynote Address

In his keynote address, Aramane highlighted the importance of achieving self-reliance (Atmanirbharata) in defence manufacturing and the crucial role of domestic Defence Industry stakeholders in realizing this vision.

Seminar Participation

The seminar saw participation from over 250 representatives, including members of SIDM, FICCI, ASSOCHAM, PHD CCI, Service Headquarters, CMDs of DPSUs, Government QA agencies, Start-ups, and Ministry of Defence officials.

Quality Initiatives

Lt Gen RS Reen, DG, DGQA, discussed various quality initiatives and reforms to facilitate ease of doing business and promote self-reliance. Rajinder Singh Bhatia, President of SIDM, shared the industry’s perspective on ongoing reforms and the need for a collaborative approach.

Industry Perspectives

Speakers from the Indigenous Defence Manufacturing Sector, including Arun Ramachandani (L-T Precision Engineering), N Raveeswaran (Mahindra Defence), Neeraj Gupta (MKU Ltd), Vrinda Kapoor (3rd iTech), and Dr R Shivaraman (Big Bang Boom Solutions Pvt Ltd), provided suggestions to improve indigenous manufacturing in the Defence Sector.

Future Interactions

The seminar concluded with a decision to hold regular interactions among Indigenous Defence Manufacturers, Government QA Agencies, and other stakeholders to facilitate ease of doing business in the Defence Sector.
