Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Encourages AFHQ Civilian Services to Enhance Skills

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has called upon the personnel of the Armed Forces Headquarters (AFHQ) Civilian Services to continue enhancing their skills in today’s fast-changing times for efficient policy-making and implementation of reforms in the Ministry of Defence (MoD). Speaking at the 83rd AFHQ Civilian Services Day at DRDO Bhawan, he described civil services as the steel frame of governance.

Singh commended the dedication and hard work of the AFHQ personnel in advancing ongoing efforts, including achieving Aatmanirbharta and contributing to the welfare of soldiers. He stated, “You are an important link between the Armed Forces and the rest of the civilian government. There is a need to further strengthen your capabilities for enhanced efficiency.”

The Defence Minister noted that the three Services form a large part of the MoD’s functioning and that the AFHQ cadre ensures that ‘group-think’, which leads to poor decision-making, is avoided in policy formulation. He highlighted the unprecedented reforms undertaken in the MoD over the last five years and the global recognition of their achievements, attributing this success to teamwork.

Singh emphasized the importance of the Armed Forces and Civil Services working together from Command Headquarters and Service Headquarters to the Ministry for better outcomes. He stressed that including AFHQ Civil Services officers in key roles in the MoD would improve decision-making quality.

Rajnath Singh urged the personnel to focus on core values such as honesty, discipline, and uniformity. He emphasized that everyone deserves respect, regardless of their position or rank, and that ego must be set aside to work effectively as a team. He encouraged learning from one another to make even hard work easier to accomplish.
