Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), August 30: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for not making sincere efforts to combat crimes against women. Speaking at an event in Thiruvananthapuram, Singh emphasized that despite changes, much remains to be done to address atrocities against women.

Singh highlighted the Modi government’s strict stance on such crimes, mentioning the amendment of laws to provide capital punishment for heinous crimes like rape. He stressed the need for strict implementation of these laws.

Singh also discussed India’s economic progress, noting that before 2014, India’s economy was among the ‘Fragile Five’ but is now recognized as one of the ‘Fabulous Five’ and one of the fastest-growing large economies.

He praised the increasing role of women in the armed forces and the positive changes in India. Singh referred to the recent tragic incident in Kolkata, where a trainee doctor was found dead, and the ongoing CBI investigation. The Supreme Court has ordered CISF security for the hospital.
