Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s Important Visit to the US: Strengthening India-US Ties
Washington DC [US], August 23: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has arrived in the US capital for a four-day visit. On the first day, the Department of Defence (DoD) and India’s Ministry of Defence signed a bilateral, non-binding Security of Supply Arrangement (SOSA). This agreement, signed by Vic Ramdass for the US and Samir Kumar Sinha for India, ensures both countries will support each other with necessary goods and services for national defense.
During his visit, Rajnath Singh interacted with the Indian community, emphasizing the strong partnership between India and the US. He highlighted India’s growing global stature under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, noting that India has moved from being one of the ‘Fragile Five’ economies to one of the ‘Fabulous Five’. He mentioned that India is projected to become the third-largest economy by 2027.
Rajnath Singh also discussed India’s economic resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic, the reduction in retail inflation, and the increase in foreign exchange reserves. He praised the government’s efforts in achieving self-reliance in defense, with significant growth in defense exports and the rise of start-ups in the country.
During his US visit, Rajnath Singh will meet with US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, and participate in a round-table meeting with the US defense industry. This visit aims to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
