Paris [France], September 2: Former Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) president Deepa Malik expressed her hope that India will win more medals at the ongoing Paris Paralympics. So far, India has secured seven medals, including one gold, two silvers, and four bronzes.

Women Leading the Way

Deepa Malik highlighted the impressive performance of Indian women athletes, noting that four out of five medalists are women. She praised Avani Lekhara for making history as the first Indian woman to win two gold medals at the Paralympics.

Recent Medalists

Preeti Pal won a bronze medal in the 200m T-35 race, becoming the first Indian woman to win two medals in track and field events at the Paralympics or Olympics. Nishad Kumar earned a silver medal in the men’s high jump – T47 final with a leap of 2.04 meters, his season-best performance.

Rubina secured a bronze medal in the P2-Women’s 10M Air Pistol SH-1 final with 211.1 points. Avani Lekhara continued her winning streak by clinching gold in the women’s 10m air rifle final, while Mona Agarwal took bronze in the same event. Manish Narwal won India’s first silver medal in the men’s P1 10m air pistol SH1 competition.

India’s Largest Contingent

This year, India has sent its largest Paralympics contingent ever, with 84 athletes competing across 12 sports. This marks a significant increase in both participation and medal hopes, as India aims to surpass its previous achievements in Tokyo 2020, where the country won 19 medals.
