Debris Blocks Badrinath Highway in Chamoli, Traffic Resumes After 3 Hours

On Friday morning, debris falling and piling up at two places in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand, halted vehicular movement on the Badrinath National Highway. The busy Bhanerpani-Pipalkoti Naga Panchayata road and Angthala road were affected, leaving many commuters and locals stranded.

According to Chamoli Police, debris near Angthala in the Kotwali Chamoli area caused the highway to be blocked at around 6:54 am. Similarly, debris between Bhanerpani (Pipalkoti) and the Nagar Panchayat Pipalkoti area was reported at around 6:49 am.

Local authorities and police launched an operation to clear the debris, and traffic resumed at both locations after three hours. The police confirmed the reopening of the blocked routes in posts on X.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand and other states, including Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh. Uttarakhand is expected to receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall from July 3 to July 6, with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall on July 7.
