On the 78th Independence Day, the District Development Council (DDC) Chairman, Mahan Singh, hoisted the national flag at the Kathua district headquarters. Despite heavy rainfall, the event was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor.

Main Event at Sports Stadium

The main function took place at the Sports Stadium in Kathua. Mahan Singh raised the flag and received a salute from a mega parade consisting of 46 contingents. These included the District Police, Police Training School, IRP, NCC cadets, and students from various schools.

Cultural Performances

Samya Singh, a student, expressed her happiness at representing her school in a cultural performance focused on women’s empowerment. She said, “I am pleased that I represented my school and the nation on this opportunity. Our performance was on women’s empowerment.”

Chairman’s Address

In his address, Mahan Singh recalled the sacrifices made by freedom fighters and commemorated the brave soldiers and policemen who laid down their lives for the nation. He urged citizens to serve the nation with devotion, honesty, and truthfulness.

He described Independence Day as the most significant day in India’s history, marking the country’s emergence as a free and sovereign nation. He highlighted India’s growing global influence and progress across all sectors, emphasizing the vision of the Prime Minister for a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India).

Efforts of District Administration

Singh praised the district administration for their hard work and coordination with the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) to achieve sustainability and all-round development.

High Enthusiasm Despite Rain

Despite the heavy rainfall, the enthusiasm of the people and youth was high. Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Minhas, Senior Superintendent of Police Anayat Ali Chaudhary, and ex-servicemen were also present at the event.
