Mamata Banerjee Leads Evacuation Efforts
In Howrah, West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that 2.16 lakh people have been moved to safety in relief camps due to Cyclone Dana. During a press conference, she highlighted the severe impact on districts, especially on kaccha houses, and assured that all district officials are actively coordinating relief efforts. She mentioned that the Kapil Muni Mandir has suffered from significant waterlogging.
IMD and NDRF Updates
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Cyclone Dana crossed the north Odisha coast as a severe cyclonic storm with wind speeds reaching up to 120 kmph. They warned of extremely heavy rainfall in south Gangetic West Bengal, particularly in east and west Medinipur.
NDRF DIG Mohsen Shahedi stated that reports are being compiled and normal services, including air travel, have been restored. Flight operations at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport have resumed after being suspended due to the cyclone.
