A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is expected to develop into a severe cyclonic storm, Cyclone Dana, by October 23, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The cyclone is predicted to reach the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal by Thursday, bringing heavy rains until Friday.

Preparations in Odisha

Odisha’s Director General of Police, Sudhansu Sekhar Sadangi, stated that the police are prepared for the cyclone’s impact. Efforts are underway to bring back fishermen from the sea, and the affected districts will be identified soon.

Government’s Assurance

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi assured that the state government is fully prepared to handle the situation, aiming for zero casualties. Evacuations will be conducted in vulnerable areas, and teams from NDRF, ODRAF, and Fire Services are on standby. Cyclone shelters will be equipped with essential supplies, and measures are in place to ensure uninterrupted electricity to hospitals.

High Alert in Multiple Departments

Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo mentioned that various departments are on high alert, with leaves canceled for officers. The districts of Kendrapara, Balasore, and Bhadrak are expected to be most affected, with heavy rainfall anticipated in other coastal areas like Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Ganjam.
