Crown Stolen from Jeshoreshwari Temple in Bangladesh
A precious crown of Goddess Kali has been stolen from the Jeshoreshwari Temple in Shyamnagar, Satkhira, Bangladesh. This crown was a gift from Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit in March 2021.
Theft Details
The theft occurred on a Thursday afternoon between 2:00 pm and 2:30 pm, shortly after Temple Priest Dilip Mukherjee completed the day’s worship. The cleaning staff discovered the crown was missing from the deity’s head.
Investigation Underway
Inspector Taizul Islam of Shyamnagar Police Station stated, “We are reviewing the temple’s CCTV footage to identify the thief.” The stolen crown, made of silver and gold-plated, holds significant cultural and religious importance.
Historical Significance
The Jeshoreshwari Temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peeths, which are sacred sites in Hindu mythology. The temple, located in Ishwaripur village, was originally built in the 12th century and has been renovated several times since.

During his visit on March 27, 2021, PM Modi placed the crown on the deity’s head as a symbolic gesture. This visit was his first international trip after the COVID-19 pandemic.
