CPI(M) Protests Across India Against India’s Role in Israel-Hamas Conflict
In Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) expressed strong disapproval of India’s involvement in the Israel-Hamas conflict. The party accused the Indian government of aiding Israel in what they termed as “America’s conspiracy.”
Nationwide Demonstrations
The Himachal Pradesh unit of CPI(M) organized a demonstration outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Shimla, claiming similar protests were happening nationwide. The protests were in response to the conflict that began on October 7th last year, when Hamas launched a terror attack on Israel, resulting in over 1,200 deaths and more than 250 hostages. Israel’s counter-offensive has led to significant civilian casualties, with the Gaza Health Ministry reporting over 35,000 Palestinian deaths.
Allegations Against India
Kashmir Singh Thakur, a member of CPI(M)’s State Secretariat, accused India of supplying weapons to Israel, contributing to what he described as genocide in Palestine. He claimed that over 40,000 children and women have died, and essential facilities like hospitals and schools are being destroyed. Thakur criticized India’s stance, suggesting it is inconsistent and ultimately supports America’s agenda.
Protests in Uttar Pradesh
CPI(M) also organized demonstrations in various districts of Uttar Pradesh, showing solidarity with Palestine and urging the Indian government to stop weapon supplies to Israel. In Kanpur, police reportedly prevented a protest and closed the CPI(M) office, although a memorandum was submitted and a seminar was held later.
