CPI(M) Demands Withdrawal of Cases for Waving Palestinian Flags During Muharram

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has called for the immediate withdrawal of criminal cases against people who waved Palestinian flags during Muharram processions. These cases were filed in Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after complaints from BJP and VHP leaders.

CPI(M) criticized the BJP-led government, stating that while it claims to support the Palestinian State, it cannot tolerate Indian people’s support for Palestine. The party demanded the release of all those detained for expressing their support for Palestine.

CPI(M) also urged the central government to show solidarity with Palestine, demand Israel withdraw from occupied territories, and restore the Statehood of Palestine with pre-1967 borders and East Jerusalem as the capital.

India has long supported a two-state solution for Palestine and Israel, advocating for peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy. Recently, India condemned the terror attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023, and called for restraint and de-escalation in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
