CPI Leader Urges PM Modi for Help in Wayanad Landslide Rehabilitation

On November 10, P Sandosh Kumar, a member of the Communist Party of India (CPI) in the Rajya Sabha, wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He requested urgent intervention for the rehabilitation of landslide victims in Wayanad, including Chooralmala. Kumar highlighted the plight of Nysa Mol, a young girl who lost her father and siblings in the disaster. A photo of PM Modi holding Nysa during his visit to Wayanad had previously gone viral, raising hopes for relief among the affected people.

Kumar noted that Nysa and her family are currently living in a rented home provided by the Kerala government, receiving Rs 300 per day for their needs. Despite promises made during PM Modi’s visit, Kumar claims that adequate assistance from the Union Government has not been provided. Nysa received Rs 100,000 from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, while the Kerala government gave her Rs 600,000.

Kumar urged for a special financial package to aid in the relief and rehabilitation of Wayanad landslide survivors. He emphasized the need for the Chooralmala landslides to be declared a national disaster to ensure proper support from the Union Government. Without concrete action, Kumar warned that many like Nysa would feel abandoned, and the people of Kerala would view PM Modi’s visit as a mere photo opportunity.
