CP Yogeshwara Joins Congress and Files Nomination for Channapatna By-Poll

In Bengaluru, Karnataka, Congress candidate CP Yogeshwara has filed his nomination for the Channapatna by-poll. The event took place in the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. DK Shivakumar assured that there is no dissatisfaction among party leaders or workers regarding Yogeshwara’s candidacy, despite some initial interest in DK Suresh for the position. The decision was made in the party’s best interest, with DK Suresh involved in shortlisting candidates.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed strong confidence in Yogeshwara’s victory, stating, “All our leaders and our party are 200 per cent confident that CP Yogeshwara will win.” Yogeshwara, a five-time former MLA from Channapatna, joined Congress after leaving the BJP. The seat was vacated by Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy after his Lok Sabha win. The by-poll is seen as a significant contest between Vokkaliga leaders DK Shivakumar and HD Kumaraswamy.

The Congress party has also announced E Annapurna as the candidate for the Sandur (ST) seat. The Election Commission of India has scheduled by-polls for 48 Assembly constituencies and two Parliamentary seats, with voting in two phases on November 13 and November 20, and counting on November 23.
