CP Radhakrishnan Becomes New Governor of Maharashtra

On Wednesday, CP Radhakrishnan was sworn in as the 21st Governor of Maharashtra at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. The ceremony was led by Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya, and attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadanvis and Ajit Pawar, among others.

Radhakrishnan succeeds Governor Ramesh Bais and was welcomed with bouquets by the state’s top officials. The event began and ended with the National Anthem, and the State Song was performed by the Police Band.

Before this role, Radhakrishnan served as the Governor of Jharkhand and held additional charges as the Governor of Telangana and the Lt. Governor of Puducherry. Born on May 4, 1957, in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, he has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and has been active in politics since 1974.

Radhakrishnan has held various significant positions, including Secretary of the BJP in Tamil Nadu, MP for Coimbatore, and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee for Textiles. He has also been involved in international delegations and social causes, such as eradicating terrorism and combating narcotic drugs.

In 2016, he was appointed Chairman of the Coir Board, Kochi, where he boosted coir exports to an all-time high. An avid sportsperson, Radhakrishnan enjoys table tennis, cricket, and volleyball, and has traveled extensively worldwide.
