Court Orders Medical Checkup for BRS Leader K Kavitha at AIIMS

The Rouse Avenue court has directed jail authorities to take BRS leader K Kavitha to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for a medical diagnosis within two days. This decision came after she fainted in Tihar Jail during a family meeting.

On Wednesday, K Kavitha was taken to Deen Dayal Hospital for a check-up. Special judge Kaveri Baweja passed the direction on the application moved for K Kavitha. The court also called for a report from jail authorities on the poor condition of medical apparatus within two days.

Meanwhile, her judicial custody has been extended till July 22. K Kavitha was produced through video conferencing from Tihar Jail. She informed the court that the health monitoring apparatus was not working properly and there were discrepancies in the results. An application for treatment was submitted to a private hospital on her behalf.

Advocate Nitesh Rana submitted that K Kavitha should be taken to any private hospital and a family member be allowed to remain present. He also suggested that she be taken to a private hospital for a check-up, as she has some health issues including high fever and cold. During the hearing, advocate Zoheb Hossain, special counsel for the Enforcement Directorate (ED), suggested that K Kavitha be referred to AIIMS for a medical checkup. K Kavitha agreed to this suggestion.

K Kavitha was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on April 11 in the Delhi Excise Policy case. Prior to this, she was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 15. On July 12, the Rouse Avenue court deferred hearing on K Kavitha’s plea seeking default bail in the Delhi Excise policy case. The CBI filed a charge sheet against her on June 6, which is pending for cognizance.
