Court Orders ED to Provide Soft Copies of Documents in Delhi Excise Policy Case

In New Delhi, the Rouse Avenue court has instructed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to provide soft copies of un-relied documents to the accused persons’ counsel in the Delhi Excise policy case. This decision was made to address issues related to document inspection, which had been pending for a long time. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja emphasized that this was the only solution after considering the counsel’s concerns about the inspection location.

The court expressed dissatisfaction with the behavior of some counsels, who requested an unreasonable 200 days for document inspection. Judge Baweja, with 24 years of experience, noted that such conduct was unexpected and advised against it in the future. The next hearing is scheduled for November 4.

The counsels for AAP MP Sanjay Singh, former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, and Arun Pillai had requested extended time for inspecting documents related to the money laundering case. Advocate Dr. Farrukh Khan mentioned needing 200 to 220 days, depending on data volume and ED cooperation.

ED’s Special Public Prosecutor Navin Matta assured the court that the inspection space was ready, with air conditioning being installed. However, counsels objected to the conditions, citing unhygienic and unsafe environments, including a monkey menace. The court allowed counsels to visit the inspection room and document its condition.

Previously, inspections were conducted in a conference room, but concerns about makeshift arrangements and monkey disturbances prompted the court to take the matter seriously. The court had asked SPP Matta to address these issues personally.
