Court Delays Hearing for BRS Leader K Kavitha in Excise Policy Case

New Delhi, July 6: Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has postponed its hearing to Monday after reviewing the third supplementary chargesheet by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha. She has been arrested in connection with the Excise Policy case.

The court noted pagination errors in the chargesheet and deferred the hearing to July 8. A report on the supplementary chargesheet has been requested. On Friday, the court extended K Kavitha’s judicial custody until July 18. She was produced via video conferencing from Tihar Jail, and her counsel opposed the custody extension.

K Kavitha is in judicial custody for both the CBI and money laundering cases. She was first arrested by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) on March 15 and later by the CBI on April 11. The ED has also filed a chargesheet against her in the Delhi Excise Policy money laundering case.

The CBI inquiry was based on a report by the Delhi Chief Secretary, showing violations of various acts and rules. The ED and CBI allege irregularities in modifying the excise policy, extending undue favors to license holders, and causing a financial loss of Rs 144.36 crore to the exchequer.
