Court Blames Chinese President Xi Jinping for Uyghur Genocide in East Turkistan

The East Turkistan Government in Exile (ETGE), representing East Turkistan and its people, announced that the Court of the Citizens of the World has held Chinese President Xi Jinping directly responsible for the genocide of Uyghurs.

Background

East Turkistan, also known as the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China, is located in the heart of Asia. In October 1949, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) marched into East Turkistan, ending the East Turkistan Republic (ETR). The Chinese government then established the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.

ETGE’s Statement

The ETGE, headquartered in Washington, DC, is a political organization formed by Uyghurs, Kazakhs, and other peoples from East Turkistan. They stated that the China Tribunal delivered its final verdict on China’s actions in East Turkistan, emphasizing that the region was supposed to be independent. The presiding Judge asserted that China’s motive was to prevent East Turkistan’s independence and forcibly integrate its people into a single Chinese nation.

International Law and Genocide

The Judge highlighted that international law mandates the recognition of the right to self-determination. He concluded that China systematically planned and executed acts of genocide and crimes against humanity targeting Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples, holding Xi Jinping directly responsible. The ongoing Uyghur Genocide aims to completely annihilate the Uyghur community.

China Tribunal

The Court of the Citizens of the World launched the ‘China Tribunal’ in The Hague, Netherlands, holding hearings from July 8 to 12. The tribunal included charges against Xi Jinping for crimes of aggression, crimes against humanity, and genocide in Taiwan, Tibet, and East Turkistan. Testimonies from victims of Chinese persecution were presented during the court proceedings.

Human Rights Abuses

The situation in Xinjiang has been marked by severe repression and human rights abuses against predominantly Muslim ethnic minority groups, including Uyghurs and Kazakhs. The Chinese government has implemented policies aimed at eradicating the cultural, religious, and ethnic identities of these groups under the guise of combating extremism and terrorism.
