Congressman Shri Thanedar Criticizes Canada Over Attacks on Hindu Communities

Indian-American Congressman Shri Thanedar has voiced strong criticism against the Canadian government for its handling of rising violence against Hindu communities. He accused the government of political maneuvering and failing to protect these communities. Thanedar stated, “The Canadian government is playing politics with this issue, they are trying to please certain minority groups in Canada. The attack against Hindus are purely terroristic acts.”

He emphasized the importance of upholding human rights for Hindu minorities, drawing parallels to struggles faced by Hindus in other countries. Thanedar mentioned his efforts to pressure the Biden administration to address these issues.

Recent attacks, including one on a Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton, have sparked widespread condemnation. The Indian High Commission in Canada criticized local authorities for not preventing such incidents, despite managing to process over a thousand certifications during disrupted consular events.

The Hindu Canadian Foundation shared footage of the attack, blaming Khalistani extremists. Canadian opposition leader Pierre Poilievre and Toronto MP Kevin Vuong also condemned the violence, with Vuong stating that Canada has become a “safe harbour for radicals.”

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed disapproval, affirming that religious freedom is a fundamental right. He thanked Peel Regional Police for their swift response. The attack in Brampton is part of a troubling trend of religious intolerance, prompting calls for better protection of minority rights.
