The Congress party is expected to chair four department-related standing committees in the Indian Parliament, according to sources. These committees are crucial for overseeing various governmental departments.

While Congress is pushing for committees like defense and finance, they may likely get the external affairs committee. Senior Congress leader KC Venugopal currently chairs the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). The DMK party is also expected to get one committee chairmanship, and Samajwadi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Ram Gopal Yadav may chair the committee on education.

Number of Committees

Although Congress is demanding six committees, they may likely get three in the Lok Sabha and one in the Rajya Sabha. There is no information yet about which committee Rahul Gandhi wants.
