Congress Suspends Chitra Sarwara for Six Years Ahead of Haryana Elections
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has suspended Chitra Sarwara for six years due to her involvement in anti-party activities. Sarwara, who is running as an independent candidate from Ambala Cantonment, violated party policy by opposing the Congress nominee, Parvinder Pal Pari.
The AICC stated, “We have received multiple reports from Congress workers and candidates of the Ambala Cantt Vidhan Sabha regarding your involvement in activities contrary to the party’s interests. Specifically, your participation as an independent candidate against the Congress candidate constitutes a violation of party policy.”
Voting for the 90-member legislative assembly in Haryana will be held on October 5, with votes counted on October 8 along with those in Jammu and Kashmir. In the 2019 elections, BJP emerged as the single-largest party with 40 seats, while Congress won 30 seats.
Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Pankaj Agarwal announced that the Election Commission of India, along with the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, has implemented special measures to increase voter turnout. Various SVEEP activities, including slogan writing, painting, street plays, and poster making, are being used to encourage voters to cast their votes.
Agarwal also noted that the voters of Haryana are politically aware, with consistently higher voting percentages in both Lok Sabha and Assembly elections compared to other states.
