Congress Supports National Conference for Jammu and Kashmir Government Formation
In Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, the Congress party has officially extended its support to the National Conference to form the government. Tariq Hameed Karra, the Jammu and Kashmir Congress chief, expressed hope that all members of the INDIA alliance would attend the oath-taking ceremony. He mentioned that a letter of support has been given to Omar Abdullah, who will meet the Lieutenant Governor to stake a claim for forming the government. The expected date for this event is Monday, October 14, but it depends on the Lieutenant Governor’s decision.
Karra also stated that Congress has not requested any cabinet positions, emphasizing that the alliance is for a greater cause beyond seat-sharing and governance. A Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meeting was held to pass a resolution for the CLP leader, after which the support letter was submitted to the National Conference.
National Conference President Farooq Abdullah announced plans to meet Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to request a date for government formation. He highlighted the need to end hatred and restore peace in Jammu and Kashmir. Abdullah also called for the restoration of statehood, stating that it is essential for the region’s development and prosperity.
